Dr. Schwartz completed his Ph.D. (Social Psychology) at the University of Calgary (2002). His dissertation focused on the contributions of mother, father, and friend attachment and social provisions to adolescent psychosocial development. Current research interests center around the social-developmental factors related to child and adolescent development (e.g., parents, peers, music), family and ecological systems theories, identity and positive youth development, and spiritualiy/religiosity across the lifespan.

Research Support

Lilly Foundation Grant (2004-2005): A 16-month study on the psychosocial experiences of urban youth as they connect with the competencies and programs of urban youth service providers.

A Little bit About Me

I am a soon-to-be middle-aged professor and researcher coming to terms with my love for 80’s rock music, the long lost dream of becoming a professional hockey player, and the search for the perfect cup of anything-but-Starbucks coffee.
