Interests

I am interested in various areas of social psychology, such as stereotyping and prejudice, but my primary research interest is the study of interracial relationships. Most of the previous research in this area has originated in the United States and has explored White/African-American marriages. My research, however, will investigate the experiences of interracial couples within the Canadian context. I believe that Canadian interracial couples may report qualitatively different experiences than American couples, as Canada has a different history of "race relations" and also has an official policy of multiculturalism. As well as contributing to the body of knowledge regarding interracial relationships, I hope that this research might also be able to provide valuable insights for relationship counsellors and therapists working with interracial couples.

Research Support

I was awarded a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) Doctoral Research Grant in May 2004.
