| | Candace Konnert | | Outline | | Notes: Do you wonder about our culture's obsession with aging? Why do we confuse aging well with not aging at all? The goal of this course is to explore these questions and provide a biopsychosocial perspective on what it means to age successfully. You are aging as you read this course description. What are you doing now to increase the possibility that you will age successfully? In addition, one thing we know for certain is that life is finite and that death is a universal experience. How has our approach to death changed over the centuries? What does it mean to die well? This question will be discussed in the context of recent Canadian legislation, for example Bill C-52 in Quebec, and impending legislation before parliament. Throughout the course, the analysis of these issues will incorporate individual, familial, community and societal perspectives. How can each of these perspectives support aging successfully and dying well? | |
